Chair of local governing body

David Davidson

Appointed by: Appointed by foundation/Trust

From: 09/07/2020 To: 08/07/2021

I am Interim Chair of Governors for the local federated governing body at Arlecdon and Thornhill.  I was born, brought up and educated in Scotland but have lived in Cumbria for 24 years.    I have been married for 25 years and I have two sons.  After completing an MA in Financial Economics I started work in the banking sector.  I then moved into the Manufacturing sector.  I started in export sales then worked in planning, moved into a role as a Business Analyst and back into a more senior role in planning.  I worked with people from all over the world and really enjoyed the mix of roles that I undertook.  Fifteen years ago, I moved to the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and have undertaken a number of roles in performance report and project controls, with a 7-year stint at Dounreay on the far north coast of Scotland.  I am currently a Performance Report Manager.  I have always kept livestock, until I had children I bred and showed horses (light-weight hunters) and at present we have three Nubian goats.  In the past I have kept sheep, pigs, rheas, geese, ducks and hens. A number of years ago I was a governor of a C of E primary school.  I undertook this role for 4 years and was vice-chair for 3 of those 4 years.  I have been Chair of Governors for Cumbria Futures Federation  (Solway School (Silloth) and Beaconhill  School (Aspatria)) for the last 3 1/2 years.  Bringing together two separate schools and their governing bodies to create one federated governing body.  I have also been a Business Advisor for Young Enterprise for 12 years,  taking teams as far the UK final and I was Chair of the Young Enterprise West Cumbria Board for 4 years.  For me, schools in local communities serve the same function as a vital organ in the human body,  without the vital organ the body becomes ill or dies.  Without schools' communities suffer socially and economically.  It is rewarding to be part of organisations that strive to ensure the continued wellbeing of communities by providing the best possible education within the setting of the community.

From: 09/07/2020 To: 08/07/2024

I am currently the Vice Chair of the local governing body for Arlecdon and Thornhill. I moved to Cumbria from London three years ago having been a Senior Manager at a charity. I worked there daily with vulnerable and mostly young people, and am passionate about education and support of youth both in school and in the wider community. Having lived in New York for some years starting and running a publishing company, I now coach for RDA as well as swimming.  In my spare time, I enjoys horseback riding,  judging and swimming in the lakes year round.

Georgia Pearson

Appointed by: Appointed by foundation/Trust

From: 09/07/2020 To: 08/07/2024

I am currently Chair for the Student Personal Development and Welfare committee. Helping and inspiring the younger generation is something I’ve always been passionate about. When I was in education myself I took the opportunity to mentor younger students, and worked alongside the teachers to help improve students’ learning - I knew I wanted to carry on supporting beyond my own school years.

I currently work in Corporate Affairs at Sellafield Ltd as an internal communications officer, where taking on additional voluntary roles in the community is actively encouraged. Becoming a governor for Thornhill and Arlecdon was a great way to continue to support and advocate education in young people and stay connected to schools in the area that I’ve lived and worked in my whole life.

I aim to always bring passion, enthusiasm and diverse thinking to the governing body.
