Week's Overview - WE 090218

EYFS & Reception

We had two stars this week, Aria who did some excellent work in Maths adding and Skyla who wrote excellent sentences all by herself.

In Maths this week we have been working on continuing patterns and creating our own using objects, shapes and pegs.

In Phonics reception have learnt the ‘oo’ look at a book sound, they used Fred talk to help them write words with this sound in. Nursery have been identifying initial sounds of words and working on forming some new letters.

In P.E this week we have been travelling across many obstacles. We climbed the horses and got to jump onto the crash mat, we had to try and land on our feet.

Week's Overview - WE 020218

EYFS & Reception

This week in P.E we have been working on moving over and under objects. We had to use all different parts of our bodies to help us.

We have been very busy this week in Maths finishing off our symmetry work and starting work on addition. We have been adding two single-digit numbers. We used hoops, bean bags and cubes to help us.

In Phonics Reception have been working on the ‘ow’ sound, we wrote our own sentences including words that have the ‘ow’ sound in them. Nursery continue to work on letter formation also segmenting and blending words.

As part of our colour topic we made fruit kebabs, we used lots of colourful fruit. We had to peel and chop them ourselves.

EYFS & Reception

Our stars this week were Laila for making a fantastic snowman last week and Aria who created an exciting pirate storyboard.

This week in Maths we have been looking at properties of 2D shapes, we made shapes using string. Reception started learning about pentagons and hexagons we investigated how many sides and corners these shapes had.

In Phonics Reception have been learning the sounds ay, ee, igh and ow. We also read the story Elmer which we had to recall and write about. Nursery have been working on forming all set 1 sounds.

Reminder: Please don’t forget P.E is on a Wednesday afternoon this half term.

 

Week's Overview - WE 190118

EYFS & Reception

Well done to our stars this week Jaydon and Paige. Jaydon has remembered all the sounds he has learnt thus far and Paige is using Fred talk to read lots of words on her own. We have been busy in Maths this week counting actions/sounds and finding more and less.

In Phonics this week Reception have been trying very hard to remember finger spaces and full stops.

We had great fun on Thursday getting into water proofs and playing in the snow; we built a snowman and even had a snowball fight.

Reminders: PE this half term is on a Wednesday afternoon.

As the weather worsens you are welcome to leave a pair of wellies in school for your child’s outdoor learning.

EYFS & Reception

This week our stars were Lolly and Skyla, for their phonics’ work – Well done!

As our topic is colour, we have been having lots of fun doing work with rainbows. We have also enjoyed lots of singing!

We welcomed Bree to the classroom, and look forward to having her join us in February.

Our stars this week were Fran for her excellent clay reindeer and Paige for a lovely picture of a snowman.

Well done to all the children who took part in the Christmas performance, I was especially proud of the wonderful singing and confidence displayed on stage.

This week we have continued our Maths work on money, we have been busy counting the coins in piggy banks.

I hope Santa is good to you all this Christmas and I look forward to seeing you all in the New Year J

Our star this week was Lolly for excellent progress in reading; she has been working really hard and is able to recognise lots of our red words.

In Maths this week we have been looking at money, we have identified different coins and tried to use some of them to buy things.

In Phonics we have learnt a new sound this week the ‘ay’ sound.

During afternoons we have been busy making clay reindeers as one of our Christmas crafts.

Our star this week was Fran for being able to write her name all by herself, fantastic work Fran.

This week Jaydon won a golden ticket for being exceptionally helpful towards the younger members of our class, well done Jaydon! J

In Maths this week we have been working on number formation and adding.

In Phonics we have been reading and writing about a story called mix it up.

This week our stars were Laila, Skyla, Aria and Lolly for fantastic work reading o’clock times, well done J

This week we have been recognising and ordering numbers to 20, we have made a giant snake of numbers to 20.

In Phonics we continue to embed our set 1 sounds. Reception have been reading a new red book this week ‘got him’ and writing sentences using finger spaces.

Our afternoons have been filled with singing and play practice this week.

EYFS & Reception

Well done to our stars, Paige who is talking more in class and saying good morning during registration also Laila and Aria for fantastic writing during Phonics.

This week in Maths we have been working on time, focussing on o’clock times. We also discussed what we do at different times in the day.

In Phonics we have been practising reading our first red ditty book. We have been trying to remember to use finger spaces when writing our sentences.

We have had lots of fun this week making firework pictures using chalk, paint and many other materials.

EYFS & Reception

This week our stars were Laila, Lolly and Jaydon for excellent progress in their Phonics assessments last half term.

This week we have been using weighing scales to identify if objects are lighter or heavier.

In Phonics Reception have started reading and doing some writing about our red ditty books. I will send photocopies of the book home so you can share this with your child.

At the beginning of the week we took part in lots of Halloween activities creating ghosts, pumpkins, spiders and playing in slime.

We do not have the sports coach this half term and as a result P.E will now be on a Thursday.

EYFS & Reception

A huge well done to Paige, Skyla, Lolly, Fran, Aria and Laila who were our stars for the excellent family houses they made during our topic work.

This week in Maths we have been working on finding one more and one less.

In Phonics we have learnt the sounds ng and nk. Some of us had a go at writing short sentences about an animation we watched called the Dream giver.

EYFS & Reception

This week in Maths we have been learning about 2D shapes. We have been using mathematical language like sides and corners to describe circles, triangles, squares and rectangles. Also we have been making shapes with various materials such as string, pipe cleaners and sticks.

In Phonics this week we have learnt the sounds th, z, ch, qu, x.

In the afternoons some of us have been practising our threading skills by making bracelets and necklaces.

Our stars this week are all the Nursery and Reception children who took part in singing our harvest song I’m a little pig, well done J

In Maths this week we have been working on identifying which group has more or less, we have played lots of games and used objects to help us practically.

In Phonics we have learnt the sounds r, j, v, y, w.

During our Topic work we have made houses and draw a picture of our family to stick inside, also some of us have written about how we are similar and different to our family members.

This week our star was Laila for fantastic Fred talking; she read some CVC words for us in our Star of the Week assembly on Monday.

In Maths this week we have continued to work on our number formation and recognition.

This week in Phonics we have learnt the sounds c, k, u, b, and f.

During our Topic work we have been discussing what we like and dislike, we drew pictures and had a go at writing some sentences.

EYFS & Reception

This week with the sports coach we explored lots of skills particularly focussing on balance and jumping. We jumped into hoops and off of benches and balanced bean bags on different body parts.

In Phonics this week we have learnt five new sounds: i, n, p, g, o. Reception have begun Fred Talking to sound out and read CVC words with these sounds.

In Maths we have enjoyed lots of counting activities; working on numbers to 10 and beyond.

Welcome back everyone; I hope you have enjoyed a wonderful break.

P.E this half term will be on a Wednesday afternoon, please ensure your child has a kit in school that is named.

This week in Phonics Fred the Frog has been helping us learn some set one sounds; this week we have learnt m, a, s, d, t.

In Maths we have been working on counting, recognising and ordering numbers to 10.

If your child is in Reception they will receive Homework in their homework book every Friday, the book is to be returned before the following Friday.

Well done to Clayton our star of the week for excellent effort in Phonics. He has shown a real improvement with his letter formation.

This week we have been making masks for our summer performances next Thursday and Friday.

Please can reception bring in a carrier bag in preparation for taking books home during the last week.

Reminder: Our trip is on the 19th of July and there are still some slips outstanding, please return them to myself or the office.

We had an excellent start to the day with sports day. I was extremely proud of all the effort and perseverance especially with the skipping races.

This week we have been preparing for our summer performance by practising our song.

Please could reception children bring in a carrier bag to take home books at the end of term.

Reminder: Please could you return any outstanding trip letters to either me or the office. The trip is £12 and we still need volunteers if you are available

 

Week's Overview - WE 230617

EYFS & Reception

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Rookery Woods on Monday; activities included zip wire, archery, sheep hunt, climbing wall and play equipment.

In Maths this week we have been identifying coins and adding using money.

Sports day is on Monday at 9am children need only normal P.E kit for this.

Reminder: Letters have gone out this week about our trip on the 19th of July to Trotters, the trip costs £12 and we are again looking for parent volunteers. Please see me if you are interested in coming along to help or have not received a letter.

EYFS & Reception

Well done this week to our star reader Poppy, she is always keen to read and is moving through the book bands quickly.

This week in Maths we have been counting in 2s and 5s.

Reminder: Our trip to Rookery Woods is on Monday, children must be in school by 8.15am. Children need a packed lunch and clothes suitable for playing outdoors. Layers are suggested as they can remove them if too hot.

Congratulations Leo who is our star of the week for excellent work in Maths; including a significant improvement with number formation.

This week in Maths we have been ordering numbers to 20 and beyond. We continue to work on counting in 2s and this week we used hundred squares to help us recognise patterns that can help us.

Reminder: Please don’t forget to hand in permission slips for our trip on the 19th. There was a second letter to inform you that we will have to leave school at 8.15, please see me if you did not receive a letter or have any queries.

Congratulations Emi, Fran and Joshua for settling into full days so well.

This week in Maths we have been ordering numbers and completing sequences. We have also been practising our number formation to 20 and beyond.

We have spent lots of time outside this week enjoying the sunshine; making dens and playing with water.

We are looking for parent volunteers for a trip to Rookery Woods on Monday 19th June. Please see Miss Dyer if you are interested.

EYFS & Reception

Well done Tyler, Riley and Leo for excellent writing. These boys have been writing sentences independently and are starting to use full stops.

This week in Maths we have been halving. We used smarties to help us on Friday and we got to eat them afterwards.

All reception children can begin to choose books from the pink book band box, you may change these as often as you like. Please use the yellow reading records to let us know how your child is getting on.

We have been painting rocks this week to display in our outdoor area, we also made patterns and art with coloured sand.

EYFS & Reception

We have had some lovely weather this week for our outdoor learning. We have been busy building dens, filling various containers with water and using the paint brushes and rollers to create patterns and clean things.

Our cress is growing well and we have been observing its growth each day. Some of us have been drawing pictures and measuring it.

In Maths this week we have been doubling, we have used objects to help us double the number and count how many altogether.

Well done to Poppy, Heidi, Minnie and Aaron for excellent writing about the Easter bunny.

This week we have been busy practising our subtraction skills, we have been using number lines to help us calculate.

Our topic this half term is growing and we have begun by planting cress seeds. We are going to complete a cress diary to see how they grow.

P.E remains on a Wednesday afternoon as we have the sports coach.

EYFS & Reception

Well done to Leo and Heidi for excellent written work in Phonics, both have been putting lots of effort into producing neat quality writing.

This week in maths we have been counting on and counting back, we have also been working on counting in 10s and 2s.

On Thursday we got to join in with a felt making workshop, we have made a large collage that will be hung in the hall.

Outside we have been identifying and looking at some bugs through a magnifying glass.

EYFS & Reception

Well done to Harrison and Heidi who were our super scientists, they demonstrated excellent enthusiasm and observation skills.

This week in Maths we have been focussed on more and less, we even tried finding one more and one less using two-digit numbers.

Finally we have had an amazing red nose day filled with fun! We watched Alex perform some tricks including riding a unicycle, afterwards we had ago at performing some of the tricks ourselves.

EYFS & Reception

Well done to Minnie, Heidi, Poppy, Tyler, James, Leo, Harrison and Aaron for creating fantastic habitats for their chosen animals.

On Wednesday afternoon we had P.E with the sports coach, we had fun practising our balls skills.

This week we have been enjoying all things science; we conducted our own fizzing teacup experiments and tested whether food colouring would change the colour of a daffodil. Go to the website to look at our Science week pictures.

In Maths we have started to learn the names of some 3D shapes.

Please can children leave toys at home to avoid these possessions being lost or the cause of arguments, thank you.

EYFS & Reception

Well done to Poppy, Aaron and Paige for excellent work during Literacy week.

This week we have been continuing patterns in Maths, we had to think about colour and size of object.

In topic we have been studying habitats and the differences between wild and domestic animals homes. We designed and created our own habitats.

As of next week we will be doing P.E on Wednesday afternoon with the sports coach.

EYFS & Reception

Congratulations to Harrison and Tyler our master builders. The boys have been constructing fantastic obstacle courses using our new construction resources.

We thoroughly enjoyed making pancakes this week; you can find pictures on the website.

Being Literacy week we have enjoyed lots of books. At the start of the week we looked at Dear Zoo and made our own class version of the book. We really enjoyed the book Something Else about a creature that was different; we discussed how we are all different and unique. We finished off the week with The Adventures of the Dish and the Spoon, and created wanted posters about the evil carving knife gang.

Well done to Harrison, Heidi and Minnie for fantastic clay animal models.

We are all very proud of those who came to our school sleepover; we had a fun filled and exciting evening.

This week we have painted our excellent animal models and made valentine’s cards.

Outside we have been using some of our brand new resources; we have been making bridges with our crates and planks.

Congratulations to Heidi, Minnie, Tyler, James, Aaron and Harrison for excellent animal paintings.

This week in Maths we have been adding, we are trying to use our fingers to count on.

During some of our topic work we created plans for an animal model; we had to think about things like how many legs, teeth, shape of body, tail or no tail. We then used clay to mould our models. Next week we will be painting these.

This week we have had some exciting new resources delivered for our outdoor area; these will be introduced to the children next week.

Well done to Poppy our star of the week for excellent work in Maths. Poppy was able to read all of the o’clock times and even draw some of the hands on the clocks herself.

This week in Maths we have been adding one-digit numbers using groups. We have learnt what the + symbol means and we will continue to practise our adding next week.

In the afternoon we have been painting pictures of animals for our display; they look fantastic.

If your child is in reception could you please continue to practise reading the red words given. It would be helpful if you could annotate progress in the homework book, thanks.

Please note: I have accidently put the wrong date on the sleepover contract, the date has not changed and is still taking place on Friday 10th February.

Well done Tyler and Aaron for exceptional attitude and behaviour in Phonics.

This week in Maths we have been looking at time, we have been reading o’clock times and some of us have had a go at drawing them on blank clocks. We have also been thinking about what happens at different times of the day.

In Phonics we continue our work reading the ditty books and learning how to write sentences. If your child is in reception can you please continue to read and practise writing any ‘red words’ given for homework. If you do not have a copy please don’t hesitate to see me.

The stars of the week are Poppy and Minnie for their fantastic phonics work.

The children had a great time entertaining you at the Christmas play. We hoped you enjoyed it.

We have had a birthday girl in class this week – Happy 3rd Birthday Fran and thank you for the cakes.

And welcome to a couple of newbies – Emi and Poppy are our two new additions being just 2 years old. They are both finding lots to play with and everyone has made them very welcome.

EYFS & Reception

This week in Phonics we have been working hard in our new Phonics groups, some of us have learnt the new sound ay others have been writing sentences and using finger spaces, capital letters and full stops.

In Maths this week we have been comparing heavier and lighter objects, we have learnt that just because something is bigger doesn’t always mean it is heavier.

Our new topic is animals and we have made animal masks using special animal pattern paper.

Well done to our stars Aaron and Leo for excellent improvement in writing.

This week we have been practising our counting, some of us are starting to reach numbers to 20. We have been singing lots of counting songs which has been really fun!

In English we have been working on our set 1 sounds; we have learnt these all now and are working hard on segmenting and blending them to read words.

We have continued to make our Christmas decorations and pictures. We have been hard at work preparing for our play next week.

Well done to Tyler who was our star for fantastic ‘Fred Talking’.

This week in Maths we have been working on our counting and number recognition.

In English we have been reading and writing CVC words, we are getting really good at forming letters correctly.

We have started some Christmas crafts this week using our hand prints.

We are currently working hard on our Christmas performance; all the children are Elves. We have some costumes but could you let me know if you have a costume or would like to buy one for your child. Red and green t-shirts, leggings or trousers would be of help. Thank you

This week Heidi, Minnie and Poppy were our stars for excellent reading and writing in phonics, well done girls!

This week we have been learning about 2D shapes, we made 2D shape creatures, went on a shape hunt and described the shapes properties.

In P.E we have been dancing with the sports coach, practising our dance skills and singing for the Christmas play.

For Children in need we have made Pudsey masks and ears

Our star this week was Leo for excellent ‘Fred Talk’ when reading CVC words, well done Leo for your hard work.

This week in Maths we have been learning all about money; we have learnt the names of different coins and what they look like. We even set up our own shop in the classroom so we could practise buying things.

We have made poppies and poppy pictures for remembrance, everyone looked fantastic in costume.

EYFS & Reception

Well done Aria and Skyla who were our stars for effort and enthusiasm in all areas of learning.

In Maths this week we have been measuring; we drew round our hands and feet so we could use them to measure objects and each other. Some of us even began to learn about centimetres and how we can use a ruler to measure.

As it is Bonfire night this Saturday night we have been looking at how to keep safe, also we had some big helpers from years 5 and 6 to help us create our own firework pictures.

Week's Overview - WE 211016

EYFS & Reception

This week’s stars were Poppy, Tyler and Lolly for excellent gardening work clearing our planters out ready for planting.

We have been clearing out our shed and have some smaller bikes which are looking for a good home. We would be very grateful of a donation if you wish to take one. We will leave them in the infant’s corridor after half term.

As the weather is getting colder we would appreciate it if you could provide some wellies, gloves and a hat for your child so we can still experience outdoor learning in all weathers. We have waterproof jackets and trousers for the children.

EYFS & Reception

This week we have learnt all about the celebration of Harvest, we also made spiky hedgehog pictures using some autumn leaves that were brought in for us.

We have been gardening outside in our planters clearing weeds in preparation for planting some new exciting things!

The class had a fantastic time learning about rainforest animals through our visit from Zoo Lab, we got to touch and hold some of them

Please note: There is a sickness bug present in school at the moment, so please ensure that everyone is being vigilant with hygiene.

Well done to Riley who was our star of the week for his colourful rice rangoli pattern. This week we have begun learning our song for the harvest celebration. On our painting table we have been vegetable printing and creating observational paintings. In the water tray we have been exploring gooey slime.

Our stars of the week were Heidi for an excellent Mehndi pattern; also Clayton for improvement in writing and Minnie for always trying her best. As part of our topic this week we have made rangoli patterns using dyed pasta and rice; this is something Hindus do when celebrating Diwali. We have also been busy in our construction area this week making model rockets. Reminder: Please ensure all your child’s clothing is named.

Well done to our star Harrison who has had an excellent start back to school. Harrison has been sitting beautifully when asked and is always ready to learn.

This week in Maths we have been working on counting and forming our numbers; some of us have begun forming numbers to 20.

In Phonics we continue to practise sounds and our segmenting and blending. Some of the children will be moving onto the ditty books next week.

Our topic is celebration and this week we have been learning about Diwali, we drew around our hands and designed our own Mehndi pattern.

This week for Roald Dahl day we got to make chocolate just like Willy Wonka!

 We have been busy in Maths focussing on our number recognition and finding one more and one less.

During phonics we have been working on the speed sounds m, s, t, a, d. We have also been forming our letters in our books.

In the painting area we have been making bubble pictures by blowing bubbles in a paint, water and washing up liquid mixture.

Reminder: Please can you ensure your child has kit in school for P.E on Thursday.

EYFS & Reception

Welcome back everyone; Nursery and Reception have settled in really well this week.

In English we have begun work learning our set one sounds and in Maths we have been working on our number formation.

We undertook our first Science experiment this week looking at what happens to a gummy bear when left in water; it grew really big!

We have made our own locker labels and painted portraits, we also got to play in some messy slime.

I will not put books in book bags for you so please help yourself to books with your child.

Request: We are requiring cereal boxes, kitchen roll tubes and plastic containers for our construction area.
