At Arlecdon School children are taught to read and write using the 'Read Write Inc' scheme.
Once children are fluent readers and can write confidently by applying their phonics skills, they begin Literacy lessons without the RWI scheme.
Children will read and write a variety of text types such as stories, poetry, instructions, reports and recounts to name a few
Children will also take part in Guided Reading sessions where they will share a book and answer comprehension questions in teacher lead activities.
Pupils will also practise their grammar skills, that are taught in lessons, by completing a weekly grammar hammer quiz.
Handwriting will also be taught and practised regularly in Literacy lessons.
